As long as the breech plugs flash channel is clean, and you use CCI 209 Magnum primers, as well as have the head space adjusted nice and snug against the primer for a slight crush fit, you shouldn't have to do any drilling.

i have really thought about switching but man having to buy the powder all new primers (currently only have 777 primers) and more bullets is just not something i can do at the moment.

not to mention i have less then a week to do it in \:\(

can you even buy Federal or CCI primers in less then a dang 1000 pack???

i had no desire to switch till this past weekend when i would fire 2 rounds that would be decent then 2 that were nowhere near the paper..have no idea what was going on but at this point i have ZERO confidence in shooting it. The last one hit dead on at 50 so i just quit before i got to pissed!

plus i REALLY REALLY hate cleaning after each shot, but oh well just dont have the funds to try it this year. not to mention i would be even more pissed if it would not fire properly out of my breech plug.

if all i had to get was the powder that would be one thing but man $34 for primers plus $27 for powder (if they have it in stock) is just more then i got.

Should be able to get primers in the 100 count packs. Powder is getting harder to find, was at BP and Cabelas Saturday and both where sold out. I have 2 bottles but just looking.

It's probably the closest thing to a smokeless ML for about $35. Still a little smoke which I like, but not enough you can't see the deer fall.

Been thinking about trying it myself. I have the Eva wolf and use 777im pellets now with Remington cleanbore 209 primers. What would I have to do to switch?

Get something to measure or weigh the loose powder and I'd go with either CCI Mag or Federal 209 primers. Those two are the hottest ones they suggest to use. Remember a 120 grains of loose Blackhorn or 777 is equal to 150 grains of pellets, so that's a max load. My encore shoots pretty good with 100 grains of blackhorn. Just have to check the fire hole in the breech plug after shooting a couple times to see if it gets plugged, some of the CVA's was having trouble with that. If it does, just get the right size of drill bit and use your fingers to clean it out. Shouldn't have to swab or anything between shots either. Don't clean with soapy water, use gun solvent just like you'd use on your rifle.

Most likely not. All of the 209 conversions i see for the traditions bolt actions use a little retainer spring and slotted plug. The breech plug must be fully enclosed.
