Still trapping nuisance animals. Got my 153rd coon Friday night and reset the trap. The 3 year old grandson spent the night and woke up crying and feeling sick in the middle of the night. As long as I was up I figured I'd check the trap. I had a skunk that seemed really agitated. That worried me. This morning after daylight I went out to dispatch him. The wife and grandson are videoing this from a distance. I was trying to cover the trap with a bag so that I could move it into the open, release the critter, and shoot him. The wife starts shouting he's raising his tail, he's raising his tail and we hear him spewing out a warning shot. She's screaming an expletive a couple of times that begins with SH_ _ as she begins running away. On the video you can hear the 3 year old repeating the same thing as he takes off running. Not that I condone using language around him like that but listening to the video was really funny. The skunk never sprayed us but the smell sure permeated the area. I think this was one of the skunks that keeps coming into the backyard and walking around the back porch. Quote the Raven....Never more.

I had a family of skunks that decided they were going to make a home of the wood pile next to my shop last summer. I was pulling into the yard in my truck after an enjoyable evening of shooting at the range and saw momma and two babies take off into the cotton field behind my house. I jumped out of the truck and chased them down with my trusty stainless steel Ruger Mark 3 Target with the holographic sight. Poor things never stood a chance. I caught the third baby in the wood pile a couple of days later and dispatched him post haste. I have since moved the wood pile from beside the shop and next to the fence. No problem with skunks this year.
