In Nov 2008, my son's house was burglarized. My .30-30 Marlin 336 topped with a Leupold was stolen, along with many, many other things.
Well, I got a call last week from the insurance company that the gun had been recovered and I had the first right of refusal. So, I made a drive this morning to the regional office in Cookeville.
Glad to have this baby back home. Now, if they can just recover the Wingmaster............... 
I would love to get my hands on the thugs that put us thru this misery!! 
(oh, and before anyone asks,......... yes, they did remove it from the NCIC database!)

WOW, glad you got her back!! I keep my guns serial numbers on a disc along with pictures just in case they are ever stolen!

I do the same thing. The night the guns were stolen, the police had the serial numbers and pics filed in the system within 15 mins of the time we reported the burglary. Another good thing to do is take pictures of your belongings in your home (TV, Stereo, Computer, Furniture, etc.), and log the model or serial numbers from that equipment and keep in a digital format in a safe deposit box at a bank. If you dont have a safe deposit box, keep in a gun safe at home----------and hope it isn't stolen or destroyed in some fashion.

Glad you got your stuff back!
And a BIG ol' '+1' to everything else posted in this thread. Folks, please keep a list of your serial numbers - especially on guns. I couldn't tell you how many burglary and auto burglary reports I've taken from people who had no clue what their serial numbers were.
There's nothing worse than dealing with some low-life thug who has a gun that you KNOW good and d&$% well is stolen, but it's not entered into NCIC and they can't be charged with it!
