Wow!

Killed Mountain Lion originated in South Dakota

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said today that results of genetic tests show that the mountain lion killed in Milford in June made its way to the state from the Black Hills region of South Dakota and is an animal whose movements were actually tracked and recorded as it made its way through Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Certainly adds credibleness to those who claim to have seen, heard, and found evidence of cougars passing thru Tennessee, hey, BSK?

Who says we don't?
Until a few weeks ago, the "official" word was none in CT.
Just a matter of time until a free-roaming cougar of wild origin is officially documented in TN. Any time now.

I agree with that. None documented yet, but it will happen.

I just can't imagine why that cat would want to do that. Maybe had relatives in Danbury.

While trail cam pics won't have anything to do with a cougar's origin, it will still be interesting when we start seeing a few.
Apparently, we are much, much less likely to get a trail cam pic of a cougar passing thru than, say, a bear passing thru. Recently, we know a bear was all over Southwest TN, but how many trail cam pics have surfaced of this bear?

When their presence is limited to merely "passing thru", as is usually the case with young roaming males, there is little opportunity for a 2nd sighting or verifying evidence, since it's often too old, and the cat isn't coming back thru. Even when great efforts are spent in trying to document a cougar in a particular area, if one only passes thru once every couple years, not much opportunity to document it. Very different situation than documenting evidence from a breeding population.

I would submit just because its not been documented, sightings and eye witness statements suggest its happened allready and will continue to happen.
