FINALLY had enough.
My 7y/o son had always been picked on by his 8 y/o cousin. The cousin is a good kid, he just pesters the heck out of every other kid (tackling them without notice, giving wet willies, etc..). And since my kid never did anything but say "leave me alone" the cousin knew he had the upper hand.
I never intervened, my son would tell on the cousin to his parents. The dad would always say "ya'll figure it out". I told my son that he would continue to pick on you until you do something about it. I told him he outweighs him by 30lbs and is taller than him. You do the math.
Sunday, the same scenario. But my kid finally snapped and let the kid have it. Cousin tackled him in the drive way. My kids shoe came off and he figured out it was a weapon. Long story short. The cousin stayed out of his reach the rest of the day.
No I don't condone fighting but enough was enough. Other cousins were elated that someone finally put the kid in his place.

Good for your son, my son had the same thing with a kid on the bus but he was the smaller one but stood up to him and that was the end of it.

And that is the way it should be.
If the kids have to sort it out, let them within reason.

In my humble opinion the bully's parents should have handled it.
Nothing makes me madder than a piece of trash bully. Be it 6 years old or 60 they are all the same.
If more parents took responsibility and raised their children with a sense of morality and self worth and respect to others children wouldn't HAVE to "figure it out".
Worst thing about it is some "pacifists" hold it in for literally YEARS and then everyone is standing around scratching their heads wondering how this timid person could have done such a thing and some punk arse bully is laid up in a hosptial bed, or dead.
Disclaimer: Pic, I mean no disrepect to you or your son, this is just one of those things that get my blood boiling.
Probably should delete my post but I ain't going to.

Your correct Ruger - the 'lack' of parenting these days astounds me - and bullies parents should have taken care of it - long ago -
YMMV

Lesson learned. He done what he had to do.
Ruger, I agree with you to an extent. Parents surely don't do their job as well as they should in most cases, but it's also good IMO to let the kids live and learn. I think the way this situation turned out that BOTH kids walked away a little better off....again IMO

None taken, Ruger.
His parents are great folks but for some reason they let him get away with things that they never let his older sister do. The kid is like an 8 month old lab puppy. It's not that he's bad he just has never been told that he bugs the snot out of everyone.
I also told my son to make sure he was kind to his cousin before we left the function. Not sure if that happened or not.
