Oomp is over rated if you can't control it or hit your target.... \:\)

LCP .380 is what I would suggest.... \:\) I carry it everyday even if I have my other ones.... \:\)

When I say oomph, I mean stopping power. If it's just gonna slow 'em down, I might as well just carry pepper spray. \:\)

Couple questions.

1- Where in the world would you be going that required that kind of dressup and a gun? You aint going to the Downtown Hookers Ball, are you?

2-Aren't you afraid by the time you get it out, speaking of the gun, you would have already been escorted out of the place? Either that or been offered several options.

I also carry the Ruger LCP and I think you will like it once you get a chance to fire it a few times. And like Wildcat said with the right ammo it will have the stopping power you are looking for in a small gun.

Dont forget about the TCP as well if you like the .380. The LCP and TCP are both great little weapons. I carry the LCP as a backup. Another idea if you like larger calibers is to look at the Bersa Mini Firestorm (13 in 9mm, 10 of the .40 or 7 in .45). Having helped a lady with her dress draw its not as hard as it might seem, or as revealing, even though in a situation of having to remove the weapon one would not worry about modesty. Make sure you get a good holster with much weapon support as this is extremely important for comfort level and not having to adjust holster.

For the absolute smallest in 9MM the Rohrbaugh R9 is extremely small but is also a bit pricey.

You don't always want the absolute smallest handgun you can get. Most women that I know who carry are extremely happy with the Kahr CM-9 handgun. It's affordable, reliable, accurate, and small. The reason that so many women that I know love it is that it is designed smaller, to fit smaller hands.
It's 4 inches high and 5 inches long.
Google Kahr CM-9 and you'll get the low-down on it pretty quickly.
I'm not sure carrying a thigh rig up the skirt is the best method of carrying any weapon other than a knife. There are other options out there, such as the SmartCarry (google it), or the purses that are designed to have a 'punch through' that your handgun resides in.
If we're talking about carrying it to church, the grocery store, shopping, etc, you will definitely want to make it a part of your wardrobe.
The professional women that I deal with that carry everyday usually wear a smart-looking jacket, and carry underneath it (google 'Cabbie clothes' for some stylish jackets that are tailored for flair at the right spots).
There are shirts and undershirts that have built in pockets for handguns.
When I did bodyguard work, ALL of my clothes (pants, shirts, jackets) had gun pockets custom sewn into them. Most of that work was high-profile (many times on TV) and I couldn't have a gun showing, so there wasn't really a lot of options as far as carrying style.
I got the most use out of the SmartCarry, but everytime I felt there was a threat, the gun was in my hand (point being that alertness is your best weapon).
The only rig I could never get used too was the ankle rig because it hindered running full out. I never tried the 'inside the thigh' rig, but I imagine that it would have the same problem.
If you do a lot of gun work, you'll find that the easiest access and fastest access point on your body under stress is what's called 'apendix carry'.
You might want to research that carry position and the carry options available for that.
The position that you carry your gun in will also be a huge determining factor as to what size and style of gun you wish to carry.
I have a KelTec P3AT, which is like the little Ruger shown here. I'm a shooter, and I do not enjoy shooting that little gun. Smaller guns means the recoil energy is absorbed by your hand, and not the mass of the gun. That's okay when your under stress and out of options, but you REALLY have to realize and understand the limitations of that size gun.

Because of a confrontation 3 years ago, I now carry the most rounds that I can squeeze into a handgun. I was carrying prepared for 1 or 2 bad guys at most, not 4.
But reality came with 4 bad guys, all with guns...
Keep that in mind when you buy a little gun with limited capacity.

I second Unicam's suggestion about the Taurus TCP. I liked it better than the LPC - better trigger and for me it is more comfortable to shoot. You can find them for $260-280.

My Walther PPS is my favorite subcompact - fantastic trigger, comfortable to shoot, and the most accurate small 9mm I have ever shot. It is bigger than the Ruger LC9, but is still quite compact and light.

With any of the small 380's, a Limbsaver sleeve on the grip will make them much more comfortable to shoot and does not add significantly to the width of the gun.
