Glad that a Nashville writer is finally calling these people out. These faux country, suburban cowboys in their $700 genes and flossy hair cut, name checking every country term in dictionary are wearing me out.

" I’d rather be hit by a can of your favorite domestic beer than hear you name-check that beer one more time when you’re singing about the party in the woods that you know darn well the three people who wrote the song in a metropolitan Nashville office absolutely, for sure, did not attend."

Love that quote from the article. \:D

Anyway, you and I, if our necks are red, it’s not from plowing the fields, it’s from leaning out the driver’s window on a hot summer day to place our onion ring order at the Sonic.

That just cracks me up. When I was reading the article there was a song about a dirtroad on the radio. Too dern funny.

And that's different how? "Country music" - at least since the 70s - has ALWAYS been centered around a few songwriters.

Today's country = 70s pop music.

I like the more rocking country music. But have to agree that its starting to sound a lot alike. Most people that listen nowdays are not cowboys. They are kids growing up in the country or kids who wished they did and these are the things people did growing up.But its nothing new. How many country songs try to get some sence of authenticity by throwing in the names waylon, willie, hank, or george.Heck even George Jones did some name dropping in a song and he is a legend.

Funny article and I like how he calls out the singers / songwriters. But, he talks about the kids down south hanging out in the parking lot at Sonic. Did the kids really stop having field parties? As true as it is that I've never plowed a field and I'm from a place near a big box store, we sure as heck had 4x4s and partied out in the middle of nowhere, not in a dang parking lot.

They definitely should only sing about stuff they actually DO. Me, I just can't get enough songs about the new studio addition on the mansion, going to awards shows, having lunch with record execs or - my fave - the problems in finding a good nanny.

Nashville country has become too insufferable for me to listen anymore, thanks to the likes of Rascal Flats and Keith Urban. A bunch of whiny femme-boys with frosted hair, high pitched voices, and Top 40 songwriters.

For people disenfranchised with contemporary, radio country, I often suggest these two records:

Hank III: Lovesick, Broke and Driftin'
Wayne Hancock: Thunderstroms and Neon Lights

Nashville's finally figuring out that Nashville music is terrible, to say the least. But that's progress!

It's marketing, that's all. And the songwriters have figured out that it's easier for people relate to going to a party than it is to relate to a lifestlye they've lost touch with over the last couple of generations.

Texas has it's own music. Much better. More genuine, for the most part. But that's because the singers actually write their own sogs. \:\)

And I don't mean Hayes Carl.

OK, I do. But I knew that would get somebody fired up! \:D

Here's some new Hank III songs debuted the other night in Nashville: http://www.savingcountrymusic.com/hank3-debuts-new-songs-in-nashville

film quality is bad, but sounds like a promising direction for the new releases.

You guys are getting old. Name one dang thing that is the same as it was thirty years ago. I could go buy a beer to wash the day down after school when I was in high school, legally, at eighteen. We would drive around out in the country late at night drinking a few and just talking. Our old haunts are either subdivisions or main thoroughfares with shopping centers now and you'll actually get arrested for an open container.

Lets face it, we're getting older and there is a lot less "country boy" livin' goin' on these days. There aren't as many farms or farm hands, just more trucks and weekend bikers. Some of us even hunt adjacent to subdivisions. Ain't nothin country about that. Saw a guy the other day that looked to be an eight to five, suit and tie, Monday through Friday type that had on a Harley beanie, leather vest and chaps that made me laugh until I cried. I like about the same percentage of country nowdays as twenty-five years ago, and it ain't much. I didn't like any country stuff thirty years ago.

Exactly. Real TALENT isn't even necessary any more - it's all about "the look."

That's true about all music genres, but far more prevalent in "country" than others.

I gave up on Nashville country years ago. Unfortunately, the Texas guys I switched to are either defunct, or gone Nashville.

Pat Green - gone Nashville
Corey Murrow - don't know
Jack Ingram - gone Nashville
Cooder Graw - broke up
Robert Earl Keen & Charlie Robison are still going, so far as I know. But with the advent of Pandora radio and iTunes, I can listen to the 80's metal that I grew up listening to.

What I don't unuderstand is why they have to sing so country you can't even understrand them. Then you hear some "star" you never heard of on an interview and he has no couontry accent at all.

George Strait did pretty well with no twangy mispronounced words. But then, he can sang.

OKay I read it. I don't get it. Is he saying all modern country is fake...or is he calling out a couple of singers via innuendo without actually naming names...which is really weak if you ask me. Either way I could care less...sick of people trying to "think for me." Editorial...whatever.

If I wanted to know what I'm supposed to think about something I'd ask the wife.

There's PLENTY more. Cory Morrow's hanging in there. REK and Charlie Robison haven't really changed.

Pat Green and Jack Ingram are nauseating. Which is a shame, because the helped get a bunch of it going.

I am a younger guy and I like the most of the newer stuff and some of the older stuff. I don't care if you call it Country Music or not I like it. I don't see why people get so bent out of shape just because they call a song "Country". Maybe it is not the kind of music you like but that is just the classification that type of music falls in.

I just say I like music and don't really care what you call it, If it is Country fine, If it is Rap fine, If it is Rock fine, If it is Pop fine. If there is a song I like I don't get mad just because it is put in a certain classification.

Darius Rucker was told he was waaaaay too country when he first switched over. The songs he had written and or wanted to record for his first country album were rejected by Nashville's music executives for being just that.

I guess George and Alan don't give a flip what Nashville thinks according to the duet they did!

I heard that storey too. I like Darius. good guy from Charleston who is proud of his home town. Went to school with him for a bit. He was a grade ahead of me in middle school and one year of high school before I moved to Alabama.
