All the new shows are out now and I've been recording and watching most of them. Some are good, some are junk. I don't have a problem with them telling who the sponsors are at the beginning and end. I also understand they have to have commercials during the breaks. But why do they have to shamelessly plug items during the show? I know that without sponsors their would be no show but dang why does it basically have to be a 30 minute commercial?
Thats how we pay our bills. The way I prefer to plug my sponsors is to mention what product I use and why. If that happens to be me saying that "I'll use this Bruzer Gear main pack to pack this bear out", thats what I do and 90% of the guys in the industry that pay their bills have to do.

So, do the Outdoor Network and Sportsman Channel pay that bad? You can watch the (conceptual) equivalent to a hunting show on the Travel Channel, A&E, Discovery etc without the programming being a continuos sponsor plug. Take a show like Anthony Bourdain, for example. Similar concept to a hunting show, except there is eating instead of hunting (though there is hunting on some episodes). My point being this: This is no other type of show that I can think of that is blatantly more sponsor heavy than a typical hunting show. There are shows that have just as many or more sponsorship involved, but not to the point of using brand name instead of proper nouns in every single instance. Where is the subtlety?

I agree. I'll still watch some of them, but it's downright annoying. totally agree!

The networks do NOT pay us. On average it costs $2,800 to 12 grand per episode to air. How do you think it is paid for? Speaking of all that, I gotta set the green screen up to film a commercial and do some interviews.

I don't understand. Why don't the networks pay for the shows? Most networks buy a season or seasons worth of shows. Are hunting shows are a dime a dozen that they'll drop a prime time episode for demanding payment?
Having a show funded entirely by sponsors who demand constant plugging compromises the integrity of the show. Viewers such as myself are disengaged by many of these show because they are nothing than a commercial.
I'd be looking to jump ship to a network that pays and put together a show about actual hunting instead of advertising products. I have a friend that is a field producer for a A&E show that get $100,000 an episode (granted, their budget is higher at 30-50k per episode). This particular show is not even prime time and usually relegated to late night or mid morning and probably gets less viewership than some of the more popular "hunting" shows on the outdoor channels. The Travel Channel has picked up at least one hunting show in the past... it can be done.

We have to pay for our own airtime and in turn, we own the commercial space during our alloted time. Primetime networks do not work that way.

I have no problem with the commercials or saying who the sponsors are at the beginning and end but why does it have to be so in your face during the hunts? it drives me crazy. do people really buy stuff cause some knucklehead on a hunting show says they should?
