There are people that go to Gatlinburg and honestly think the edge of the earth exists beyond that last traffic light. I have several co-workers that only frequent the area strictly for the aquarium, jip joints and go carts. One guy in my office that got married there had never heard of Cades Cove when I asked him about it. As for the Wednesday 10 am opening, it's great to bike it at sunrise up until they open the flood gates. As for your post, years ago as for a prank me and a buddy after hiking 5 days on the AT came down and drove the loop. For a gag, during some bumper-to-bumper traffic, my buddy jumped outta my truck and took off running with his camcorder. Several other people threw their cars up in park, grabbed their cameras and followed him. Hahahahaha. And it was absolutely nothing but a prank. It's also fun to start wildly pointing out the window and watch the reactions of the people in your rear view mirror.
Yeah, it was crazy!.....It was hotter than heck that day too.....Your buddy really had those silly people going.... Some were even sillier than you can imagine, I learned this while trying to find my shoe while walking with them back to my truck..........

We were trying to get to the trailhead to hike up to Abrams Falls a few weeks ago and traffic had come to a complete stop for about 15 minutes. When we finally got up to where the blockage was, there was one hen turkey scratching around about 50 yards off the road. Same thing, people with cameras and binos were spread out all over trying to get a look at her like she was some exotic creature.

I love Cades Cove. Last time I was there, I saw this huge buck cross the road in front of me and go out into a field and lay down. I was standing in the truck doorway with camera in hand. Guy walks up and says what ya lookin at?
Ans: A big buck.
Q: Well, I dont see it.
Ans: He's out there.
Q: Out in the field?
Ans: Yeah
Q: Where is he at in relation to that dead bush.
Ans: Thats his rack!
I thought the man was going to choke.

I would love to have a bigfoot costume and walk around in some of the field edges right at dark. Maybe even jump out on a few people. Dang that would be fun.
