I like the Fords... just don't like buying anything that is new. If I'm not mistaken, the 5.0 the Fords have is a new motor for this year.

FORD all the way baby!! Im on my 4th new one in 32 years. The next to last one had 235,000 miles on it b4 it got rear ended and totaled on hwy 70. The current one will be 5 yrs old in August. Its got 95000 problem free miles on it. It hauls a butt load of tonage at least 5 days a week with no problems.
I wouldnt own a GM(Obama Motors) product if my life depended on it.
Dodge would be my second choice.

The 5.0 is not new but revamped. They ran it in the Mustang GT's forever. There are 4 motors available in the 150's:
3.7L V-6
3.5L V-6 Ecoboost (twin turbo with 420 ft. lbs. torque and almost 400 hp. - this is the one with the best fuel mileage). It's been out a couple of years but is the first in the 150.
5.0L V-8
6.2L V-8 (I think it's a 6.2. If not it's 6. something)

You can bet it's not the same motor they ran in the Mustangs. I had a 68 Fairlane with a 5.0 or 302 as we called it in those days so I know Ford has been making it forever... just a new design for this year.

If your not pullen' huge loads you cant beat the Tacoma. I have an 07 Access cab SR5 4x4 with 86,000 on it(bought new 6/07). Only thing Ive done is change oil every five thousand. Still has factory brakes! Will go anywhere! Ive had alot of people tell me I was stupid for having a new truck some of the places Ive had this one. Only thing I would change about mine is I wish I had got the four door instead since I now have a kid. I pull a 6x10 trailer and a several boats up to 19' regularly, No problem. Mine is the 2.7/5 speed and I average around 21.5-22.5 with 265/70/17 BFG AT's. With the factory tires and wheels I had no problem getting 23++. Just drove a friend of mines 4.0 6 speed manual TRD off-road 4 door. No doubt what my next truck will be.

I'm pretty sure its the 302. Been a bit since I read about them them but you're right I'm sure they're new and improved.

I got a 03 supercrew f150 with the 5.4 love the truck and it loves the gas. Im getting about 14mpg running a 315 tire on a 5" lift. 102k on it and the only thing ive replaced was the upper control arms. Next truck will be a 4x4 Ranger or Tacoma. I wish I still had my Tacoma back, and I put over 200k hard miles on that truck and had no problems at all.

Get the Tacoma or a Nissan Frontier 4 door. I looked at both extensively when I was in the market and ended up with the Frontier (2007 model) simply because I liked the looks of it better. Both trucks are nice. Both have comparable towing capacities.
Seriously, for me, it came down to looks and the Nissan won. I bought it new in November 2006 and haven't had a problem out of it yet.
I bet you'd love either one.
