I've shot them all from 270 to 300. I perfer my 270 hands down.

A well placed .270 will sufficiently kill any North American Big Game animal short of a Grizzly Bear and a Moose and has less recoil than a .308.
.308 is an awesome round, but will require more time, possibly quite a bit more time, at the range. If you are inexperienced with larger calibers and do not plan to shoot regularly (multiple times a month), then I suggest going with the .270 based off of recoil and handling alone since you'll be more accurate with it.

Well, ok... sure, a Featherweight gun is going to have recoil. A 1911 in .45 can have less recoil than a 9mm in polymer frame. I did shoot one of those Remington R25 in .308 from prone position and it didn't have much recoil at all, but that is a pretty heavy gun, too.

there is only about a 1/2 lb difference in the weight. i believe it is more to do with stock design and material. the 270 is walnut, the 308 is synthetic.
