Over torque of lug nuts is the biggest cause of warped brake rotors and eventual pulsation when braking. Usually takes 3000-5000 miles before you start to feel it.

Walmart saying the liability thing is a bunch of crap.

Most shops use torque sticks (instead of wrenches on their impacts, which are attachments that will only tighten the nuts to a specific torque.

Me being me when I passed her thought what if that was one of my daughters stuck out here in nowhere. I did a couple U turns and got back to her vehicle. I had to stand on my fourway lug wrench and jump down on it to break the lugs loose. No way she could have did it. She must have thanked me a dozen times and said at least 50 cars had gone past before I stopped. Glad I got her on her way again.
Very thoughtful of you Big Ben.

As in you don't believe me? Or you agree?

I had them put on a set if tires and then about 3 weeks later my brakes needed changing. They were down to the squeelers.

I discovered the super tight nuts while I was attempting to start my brake job. That's when I carried it back up there and bitched them out. I also ripped em pretty good for not doing a visual insp on the thickness of my brake pads. Most shops will almost always let you know if your getting thin on pad. They didn't bother to inquire.

I don't let the tire companies tighten my lugnuts with their air wrenches. I take the tire off myself and carry it in, get whatever work I need done on it, and then I put it back on myself...using my torque wrench.
I'm really picky about this...

And I always carry and extra piece of pipe in my truck that can fit over a lug wrench and give me extra leverage. Not because mine are over-torqued, but I've stopped to help folks before and theirs were too tight.

Another question: why do the automakers provide a 12" long lug nut wrench? That's just ridiculous!

You get you tires at Wal-Mart you get the same service you get at the check out. Service sucks.

Oh no, I believe you and have no reason to doubt they would say something so stupid. Read what it says, "Walmart saying the liability thing is a bunch of crap."

Walmart's liability would be higher for over tightening the lugs than for doing it right.
