If there is no season for it, it is a closed season. Shoot a Bigfoot, and TWRA might be paying you a visit.
Ace in the hole is always you felt threatened.

So, then, this begs the question:
IF you actually saw/encountered a Bigfoot, would you (attempt) to kill it to prove its existence, become famous, etc. OR, would you let a rare and strange animal walk.
I'm thinking most of us would be too stunned, confused, unsure of what we are actually seeing to try to kill it. How would you be totally sure it wasn't another hunter in a Ghilley suit? Furthermore, unless you were armed with a high power rifle, it would be ill advised to shoot unless you were immediately threatened.

That is why I put in the Original question "positively identify it as NOT human". Easy for me. i'd shoot. I want a full body Loche Ness...or any other mythical creature mount. Its rareness wouldn't bother me. H1N1 virus is a rare animal too.

And this is EXACTLY why I don't put on my ghillie suit until I get set up where I'm going to hunt!
Bubba calling his wife, "Hey baby, I just shot me a bigfoot! We's RICH!!! Call Jerry Springer! I was just sitting up in my tree and here he come...and he was toting a rifle and a water bottle..."
Nah, with me, Bigfoot gets a pass. I know it's just another hunter in a a ghillie suit.

I am with you, Stik. I have no interest in killing an animal just to be famous. Besides, you can't say for sure how closely related Bigfoot might be to humans. What if Mr Homo Erectus/Hominind turned out to be Homo heidelbergensis, Homo neanderthalensis, or even Homo sapien? You could be brought up on murder charges. 1st Degree.

Self defense
Since we are going down this road.... if it were in fact determined to be humanoid and you were going to claim self defense, you might have a difficult case. After all, you shot a unarmed "man" in the woods, did you not? Even if it directly attacked you, a broken nose does not justify a self defense shooting in TN. If you were sitting in a tree, and Bigfoot were unarmed, how is he posing a direct threat to bodily harm or injury? If you shot him at more than 20 yards, your case could get exponentially more complicated.
Silly argument, I know, but we are having it nonetheless
