Just had a guy come into my office that hasnt had insurance with us in over 2 years wanting me to type a letter to that effect. I asked him why and he showed me a letter from FEMA where he is trying to get money for his car that was damaged during the recent storms(hail damage). Im thinking no way FEMA is going to give you money but he then preceeds to tell me his friend just got $4500. He said he was trying to get money for his car so he can buy his daughter a car since his is driveable. Anybody else heard about this.

Federal grants and loans aren't a replacement for insurance, but can help you pay for losses not covered. FEMA says even those without comprehensive car coverage who suffered damage should apply. Impacted businesses can also apply for low interest, small business loans.

From a couple of other links:
The help is not limited to people who own or rent a home. If you have one of the several cars damaged by hail, it was your primary vehicle, and you did not have full coverage, you could qualify for help.
Susan Anderson came to the center hoping to get some help fixing her new car. Anderson said she is grateful for the lifeline. "It feels like a relief that they are actually going to come and look," explained Anderson.

"Tennis ball sized hail got my house my car, hit the sunroof on the car, of course dented all the medal and stuff, got the roof," said South Knoxville resident Jerry Satterfield.
So Satterfield jumped at the chance to get federal assistance. "They gave me a number to get registered for additional help to cover some stuff that the insurance may not cover," said Satterfield.
Susan Anderson came to the center hoping to get some help fixing her new car. Anderson said she is grateful for the lifeline. "It feels like a relief that they are actually going to come and look," explained Anderson.

Maybe I'm missing something but is it not a state law to have car insurance? Doesn't make sense to go back to you to write a letter saying he hasn't had insurance in 2 years.
Either way, pay the minimum get the minimum. Hailstorm gets my truck I definitely don't need FEMA money. Same thing with the house.

Didn't have comprehensive insurance on the car? Comprehensive insurance costs durn near nothing.
Tough. They want their car fixed, pay for it themselves.
When do we quit giving away tax dollars to people who make bad choices?

liability is required. comp is not unless you have a lien against it.

Never, so long as those bad choices include voting for the people who are giving them my money.
