I asked about that and the lady at the health department told me they require the test before allowing someone to get the vaccine if they've already had the disease. I definitely had chicken pox. There's just no written record of it. I came close to begging for the vaccine but they wouldn't allow it without a blood test.

\:\( Sorry about that.

Good to know that you are going back to college. How did you get admited the first time or could this be a new requirement?

What a bunch of babies!

Up until a few years ago, I needed a few tubes of fresh blood for the research I do in my lab at Vandy a couple of times a week. I got tired of finding volunteers and having to go over to one of the clinics to have it drawn, so I learned to draw it myself, on myself (so, I am actually the "normal control volunteer" cited in most of my publications). I guess I've drawn blood on myself at least 700-800 times over the past 25 years.

I will admit that some phlebotomists have a knack for making a needle stick a very painful experience - the worst are the ones who think your veins are down near your bones. I wasn't paying much attention once while having blood drawn at the Dr.'s office until I felt a sharp pain, looked down and she had the needle buried almost up to the hub in my arm doing some "deep well drilling"! I politely told her that arm veins are not that deep, please remove the needle. She got a new needle and I did it myself.

heck, I had 2 cases, a light one and 5 yrs later a heavy one. didnt go to the doctor for either of them. the only reason my wife took our little girl to the doctor for hers was the school needed at note from the doc office.

It goes into effect tomorrow. July 1st. When I went the first time there was no requirement on it.

whew, I know the feeling. I've been to the lab 4 times in the last two weeks.

The ladies at the oncology lab tend to be a little harsh, it's like cattle in the chute around there.

If you come in with a smile and compliment them that her scrubs are pretty, you get a smaller gauge vacutainer. ;\)
