I've allegedly heard of a little girl that allegedly procures box turtles from time to time, although they all end up in the woods during the night while she sleeps somehow.

Allegedly she also has an old sandbox that ended up as the outhouse of choice for every cat in a 50 mile radius that's been converted into a tadpole pond too.

But, that's all heresay - I cannot confirm or deny any of it whatsoever.

Illegal? Wow never saw anything in the research I did about that. We saw some while camping and my kids wanted to take one home.because the salminilla risk, it was a negative.

lots of big box turtles on clarksville base on ftcky all over the woods in that area.

i came home one day about 7-8 yeras ago and my daughter alexis who was 9 at the time had found a baby chipmunk in the yard down by the woods
i told her and her mother numerous times over the next 4-5 days that they had "chippy", that it needed to be let go down in the woods and that feeding a chipmunk hamster food that was young like that wasnt doing chippy any favors

well chippy took a turn towards ill health
and after talking to alexis for a lenght of time about letting him go back into the woods and his mother would find him and take care of him ( totally untrue,,, just said it to comfort her which backfired on me just a little later) myself and her brought chippy into the woods behind the house along with her tearful goodbyes

all was good until

about 2 hours later our cat simba came running up out of the woods and presented chippy to us while i was barbequeing some hotdogs and hamburgers to show off his hunting prowess on the front porch, with half his head chewed off and a broken neck for all to see \:o
had to happen to me of course........

boy what a shyt storm that caused with simba running off with chippy neck a flopping trying to chase him down playing stop and go games with him

we gave chippy a funeral after me chasing my friggin cat all over the place \:D \:D \:D

it wasnt to pleasant for me, the whole chippy experience looking back on it at the time \:D \:D

Thank you for that eloquent assessment and I shall remember to keep it in mind...should I actually ever decide to bestow upon my mind a flying rodent's derriere.

I have seen a few of them from my treestand. Pretty cool. Had one come out from under the leaves go about 20 feet and back under the leaves. When I got down I went to see said turtle, never could find it!

I didn't mean it quite like that. But we kept a couple. Had a cool little 'cement pond' watering area for them to chill out. Had straw for them, fence overclosure to keep dogs out. Three squares a day. Mixed population with females.

They all got their sentence commuted before fall. More like a Shawshank Redemption. \:D
