Health issues with labs (dogs) ?

Reading several recommendations for labs on TxMags post got me to thinking about my dog that I got from Spit in December. He is 7 mos old now, and firmly has my family (3 girls and wife) wrapped around his finger.
I was curious as to what kind of life expectancy you guys had with past labs you have had, and any other health issues that you experienced?

"Bunk" will be 9 in December, he does 15 - 100 yard wind sprints 5-7 days per week, main thing to do is not let pup do any jumping, this could affect hips later in life, other that this just enjoy

I had my previous lab for 14-1/2 years.
he was 100% outside dog, free roaming,ate grease,roadkill,table scraps and sipped a beer nary now and then.
I know that's not normal experience most folks have with their labs, (usually 10years) but I think my Jules must have been made on a Wednesday.

I've had three pass, one at 13 1/2, one at 11 and one at 9 1/2. The 9 1/2 was an unusual circumstance, he died of bloat but was otherwise very healthy.

our lab is almost 12. still getting around good. she had some eye problems a few times and large lypoma tumors. tumors are not malignant but one of them is the size of a football cut in half. too old for surgery but it does not seem to bother her

Shouldnt be a problem getting 10-12 maybe 15 out of him

Mine began to have lung problems at around 11 1/2. Last summer was hard to breathe, this summer was terrible. She lost a lot of weight and wasn't very active.
What finally got her was her joints locking up. It happened sudden and was hard to watch, but at least she didn't suffer more than a minute or two.

How do you set this up? Is this retrieves or does he put on his nikes and underarmor and you get the stop watch?
All joking aside most I have been around have hit 12 pretty easy and been balls of energy until 6 or so. Then come into their golden years until 10-11.

Our lab developed congestive heart failure around 9 years. He died within a year. The vet was so surprised that he had made it that long....he rarely ever diagnosed CHF past 5 years. He attributed it to a lifetime of running with my mom. We think he was susceptible to it from getting Kennel Cough as a young pup.

we import breed and sell english white labs and have since 1993. life expectancy correlates with the animals being free of congenital defects. we screen all our dogs as well as the dogs whose semen we import for genetic soundness in the area of hips, elbows, eyes, cardiac and thyroid and will only use champions who score good or excellent in these areas. these are teh problem areas for most large breeds, especially labaradors. our first english import just passed at 17. average for our dogs should be 13-16 yrs. the labs that have to be put down at age 7 or 8 are often the result of backyard breeders throwing a couple dogs together that have not been screened for anything, so they can try to sell a few 300 or 400 dollar pups for some extra spending money. but the buyer is the one who will get bit down the rd.
