I am hoping somebody on here is familiar with dot numbers for trucks. I have to get numbers for my truck and am only traveling in tennessee. so do i have to get usdot or dot numbers? I can't find a web site from tn dmv with the info.

Thats the site, and it is pretty straight forward. I did our companys about 5 or 6 years ago, and you will have the number as soon as you finish the application.

ok I've looked at the site even though i only operate in tennessee does tennessee still require you to get a USDOT number. I thought that if you only operated in your state or residence you could get just a dot number. I just don't want to have to get something with a bunch of paperwork later down the road.thanks

I only travel in TN and that is the number I use. It is a USDOT number, as it is regulated by the Federal Motor Carrier deal.
Best I remember, I had to choose how many truck we had and how large they were, like class 8 trucks,, whether we carried haz mat stuff, and things like that.
I dont believe there is just a TN number, just the USDOT

From what I recall, you get a USDOT number that will essentially notify the State that they need to involve themselves with your truck.
You should have no problems, provided you NEVER cross state lines in it. Then, you're in for a WORLD of pain.
