i ship all the time. ups has never lost or broke one of my packages. but their billing is another matter. several times they have tried to up my charges after shipment when their people at their drop centers weighed and measured the items. one time , i dropped an item at their terminal and the receiver paid for it . they charged him 60.00 for the package and then back billed my 150.00 .....we have fought over it for months.

Here's the point:
Everyday stuff is fine to go UPS or FedEx
$160,000 of precision electronics is not. Doesn't matter how many FRAGILE stickers you put on it.

I happened to be home one day and got to meet my UPS driver. He said he'd been dying to ask me about my fancy carriage house shingles, my FEMA trailer, my plum crazy Mopar in the garage, lmao I asked him had he checked out my liquor cabinet too but, anyway I talked his ear off, probably made him late for the rest of the day. I had known my previous driver for that area for years
LMAO!!! What kind of FEMA trailer you got? It wasnt one of those with PCP'S in it, was it?

Was all of the electronics in one box? The reason I ask is that we only go up to $50k per pkg on insurance if something gets busted or lost. I'll be the first guy to tell you that "Fragile" on a box only gets it a two hand toss in the building. Call me crazy... but why try to ship the cheapest way possible when the equipment cost that much?

How heavy was your trolling motor? Over 70 lbs or under? Did your wife ask him to note that the pkg was damaged in case there needed to be a claim filed?
The motor was about 60 lbs. Though one end of the box was crushed, the motor seems undamaged. He left before the wife could get there. We have never had anything damaged that they have delivered, but we are not always home when they come. I didn't mean to insinuate that all drivers are careless. But, In this case I believe he thought no one was around to see his carelessness.

Just like with all jobs, you will always have some knuckleheads. I have taken some trolling motors to Bass Pro before and they went around 90lbs. I'd bet 70lbs of it were in about a 10 inch square of the box also. Don't get me wrong, I've lost stuff off of a dolly in front of folks and had to listen to the heckling. I wouldn't say its embarassing, just a hassle more or less.

It was a supplier shipping stuff to me, so that's a good question for them. 2 individual, properly packaged crates, banded to an aluminum skid. A third, properly packaged box, banded to the skid as well. The aluminum skid was banded to a pallet. Somehwere between Point A and the Memphis freight terminal, the aluminum skid got crushed, thereby loosening all the banding, allowing the boxes to shift to and fro.
And it was 2-day freight, so it should've been at MY dock sometime Monday, not YOUR dock on Monday afternoon, for Tuesday delivery.
But, all's well that ends well. Everything fell into place nicely, albeit with no room for error.
