I didn't want to hijack Rugers post about cats and electricity, but wanted to expand on catman's talk about sticking your tongue on a 9volt battery....(I haven't thought about this in over 20 years)
...So, as a young lad with braces, I spent the night with my buddies who also had braces..... We were up all nite, and in those days there were only 3 channels - one of which we couldn't get the rabbit ears in position to see clearly because of the hills - and all channels signed off around midnight with a flag and playing of the National Anthem.
Well, after standing around with our hands over our hearts and siging the anthem to the music...we didn't have much to do. We'd eaten our fill, were too young to consume what was in my buddy's dad's liquor cabinet, and couldn't listen to records cause his parents were asleep.
So, we played 'dare'. Of course it was truth or dare - but we all knew that everybody lied so we dropped the truth and just dared each other to do 'stuff'.
Well...somebody thought it a good idea to take a 9 volt battery and dare somebody else to stick their tongue to it. Heck, after the first dude did it to no overly bad results...we all did.
Then....I was dared to take the battery and stick it to the brackets of my braces on my two front teeth....
...So, I no sooner made contact with both poles and my braces when everything went blue!!! It felt like the roots of my teeth were trying to come out of my jaws...and to make matters worse, I must've jerked or something because the battery got hung up on my braces!
Later, (while laughing hysterically I might add) the other boys said it looked like blue lighting was shooting out my mouth for a foot and I was hopping around from one foot to the other in a circle trying to yank the fiend from my mouth.
I somehow got it out and slung hit as far away from me as I could...come to think of it, it's probably still in the woods up highway 58...
At any rate, I had proven myself in front of my buds.
I had also damaged my braces in the process and was reluctant to tell my parents about it. In fact I figured I'd just stick some wax on the parts cutting my lip and all would be fine. It was...for a few days...until I woke up for school and looked in the mirror.
There was a 1/2" GAP between my two front teeth!!! I quickly summoned my dad and made up some story about messing up my braces eating popcorn or something.
Went to the orthodontist that afternoon who fixed the braces and WIRED my two front teeth together.
Didn't smile at school for quite awhile until my teeth moved back either.
