I participated in a week long course when I was in college in the Tetons. I got along well but would have done a lot better if we would have been allowed to kill things.

If i was considerably younger, I would love toparticipate in that Survivor thing. But with my people skills, they would get rid of me the first week.

To me, if you are not allowed to kill animals,it aint really survival. Knowing what plants and bugs you can eat is great as long as you keep in mind thatit changes from area to area and with some plants, season to season.

I created a lot of smoke yesterday when I tried to "create" fire with a bow and drill. Drill was to small and I had no clue of what I was doing...LOL. Did get a flame with flint, magnesium and tinder. Heck, even made a water filter out of activated carbon and PVC pipe and bleach to purify it, hoping I dont get sick the first time I use it.

The storms passing through earlier this year got me to thinking of what I need to do to be prepared.

I have failed with the hand or bow powered drill, need to keep trying.

Besides basic hunting and fishing skills I also know a lot of the edible plants around the area.

One of these days I'm going to have to make a trip out for a few days and see how I really do using nothing but the wilderness to survive. Thinking of packing stuff into 3 Altoids tins and see if I can survive off of what fits into the tins. For water, I'd have to boil it I guess. I would look for a spring and then boil the water.

Wilderness survival is one thing I have been interested in for a while and I want to actually test my knowledge and skill someday and see what needs improvement.

I would like to go out and test my skills for a day or two but I'm not having much luck finding anyone who wants to go along. May just have to go myself.
