Season before last I had a doe with an orange collar walk up so close to me I could have petted it. I thought about it but I thought it might go crazy.

I'm not shooting a collared deer.
Just doesn't seem right for some reason.

I know some folks in MS who nurse abandoned fawns to health (locals drop them off at their house) and then release them. They do keep one or two as pets. They also put collars on the deer as they are nursing them.

They are big time animal lovers. I mean big time. They have pets raccoons, squirrels, a monkey... you name it.

I have never brought up the subject of what happens to those deer during hunting season. I suspect it would be a sore topic, though they do own quite a bit of land and it is possible that the released deer stay close by on the property for at least one season and acquire some survival skills from the wild deer.

Depends on how hungry I am.

Well, I think most likely an individual put that on that deer. (not an agency) Unless you see some additional numbering or tags.

I know of a man that's done that to a few deer. He's gained the confidence of several deer that come into his backyard that he can get within an arm's reach of these deer.

Ditto , I seen a buck with a collar on it a couple of years back close to my property . I was told that the GW told those people that they had to let the deer come and go , so they left the basement door open so he could do so ! Man you could go by there and see the buck playing with the family dog .
