A girl that worked for me for almost 7 years moved to FL due to her husbands transfer. She asked me to be a reference and put in a good word at a place almost identical to where I work. She knew that I was pals with someone who could get her on down there.
She had always been a good employee so I called my friend and gave him my pitch. He hired her and she called me to say thanks and was very excited.
Talked to my friend yesterday and, well the girl quit on him. Less than 3 weeks into it she told him it just wasn't for her.
The job was about a rung lower than where she was up here. Just after she got hired in that position a 'higher' position opened and since she was on probation she couldn't apply for it. My friend said she was peeved about that and that's why she quit.
Ultimately it's on her not me but I think the next time this comes up I'm going to give a standard, white bread, HR reference answers.

That's tough and I've had it happen to me as well. Csn't control what people do.

I do not give references for people that worked or work for me. All I can do is verfiy they worked or work then send them to our verification hot line. That can be tricky business. you give them a bad reference, they don't get a job and find out about your reference and they can sue you for that. Company strictly forbids sny info like that going out.
