That's a cool round, but has a lot of bark. -too much for most people. I heard that the FBI tried switching to the 10mm a few years ago, but the 3 shot grouping consistency suffered so much in training/tests that they reverted.

I carry a Glock 23 (.40s&w).

The 10mm is not that much more barky than the 40s&w and way more power. I even sold my 45's.

I do recommend that you handload for the 10mm. Ammo is so hard to find, but I roll my own and the 100mm has so much potential. I have owned them all and nothing else even comes close power wise.

Not that much more, but enough to make a significant difference for most people. If you're going to carry a 10mm, you best have put a LOT of rounds downrange and shoot on a regular basis. It is not a chamber for someone who shoots 10 times a year, that's for sure. Don't be me wrong, the ballistics are great, just not a every day gun for most shooters. I'd consider carrying one if I lived in bear country.

What grain do you carry for SD?

Springfield xd subcompact in 9mm. You can load a 13+1 magazine and it will be the size of a glock 26 or put a 16+1 round magazine with a grip extension and you have a full size grip.

200 grain, huh? Whew... what's the over penetration potential like?

I've got both the Glock 17 and the 19. I shoot the 17 more accurately than the 19, but the 19 is a tad bit easier to carry. The 17 is about 3/4 an inch or so taller and longer than the 19. That's not a lot of difference, and my IWB holsters fit either gun.

I carry them for city defense, and I also have a couple of G23's that I sometimes carry. I'm not a 'caliber snob', as long as I have something that will put them down. My training is: shoot your assailant to the ground.

My fishing tacklebox gun is a Glock 21 (45acp) and I strap on a Glock 20 (10mm) when I hunt (or a S&W .44 mag revolver). Since shooting hogs is now illegal, I'll probably just carry the G20 from now on and leave the .44mag at home.

Don't let the Glock naysayers fool ya. There's a reason that 3/4 of the law-enforcement dept's either are carrying or have carried Glocks. And it wasn't because they bid the cheapest...

I have an old, .357 mag. six-shooter that I love when it comes time to hit something and have it be dead.

My handloaded 200 grains are traveling at much faster velocity than your .40s&w. More than enough velocity for a heavy hollow point. \:\)
