Many folks fear grabbling because of snakes and turtles. However it's not an issue.

The places the catfish use are completely submerged, like underwater caves. Snakes and turtles have to come up for air, therefore they don't go in those caves or they can't come up for air.

Besides, if they went in there the catfish would bite he!! out of 'em ... just like they do us!

You haven't lived until a 30 lb. flathead has clamped down on your arm, or literally ripped a glove off your hand.

All I can add to this is to say......IF a 30lb catfish was to bite down on me, that water would be so polluted afterwards that they'd have to post warning signs around it. \:D

When my Dad was a teenager back in the late 30's and early 40's he used to go noodling in the Big Sandy River in Carroll County. The biggest flathead he got was 84 lbs., and said it just about drowned him and his brother getting it out.

I've got some friends out in SE Kansas that take old bathtubs and 55 gallon drums, cut a hole in them, and sink and anchor them along the river banks to provide artificial noodling habitat for big cats.

What do you do with these monsters? Take a picture and send it off to live another day?

I can't imagine them being very table-worthy.

Correct... our grabbled cats are all released. There are times when the fish (or you) can be injured in the heat of battle. If that happens they become table fare... but that is VERY rare.

Looks like we know some of the same people. Allen lives in my neck of the woods and is a heck of a big cat guy. I didn't know he grabbled though, I have only ever known him to land the big ones on rod and reel.
