Straping a kayak to a luggage rack?

Anyone have any tips because all I know to do is strap the fire out of it? Taking it to Gulf Shores this weekend to do some fishing in the gulf. I will be straping it to a 05 Explorer and the rack on it has 2 adjustable crossbars, one on each end.

If you have tie points on the front and rear of the kayak, tie it up there like a canoe. Front bumper, back bumper and one or two accros to keep it from lifting. If you are using ratchet straps, be careful with your luggage rack, might bend the crossbars.

foam across the cross bars to help hold the kayak in plane,, but for sure on the bow and stern tie downs/

I got it strapped down good. It fix perfect on the rack and used 4 600# rated straps and it will barely move. I will be paranoid and have to stop and check out the straps every so often. Ide hate to ruin a $500 kayak. Headed to Gulf Shores in the morning and hopefully get some good fishing in during the week.
