I'm interested in buying a good saw. My el cheapo has died. My dad has an old stihl 028 super that is amazing. It has a 20 inch bar and will rev to the moon. My question is do the new ones run as good as the older ones? I'm looking for something with really high revs and not break the bank too bad. Just wondering what you guys and gals thought.

Thanks

I prefer my Husqvarna 455 Rancher over my Stihl Farm Boss.

I have a 20 year old 028 as well and love it.
Stihl has several series of saws now. Don't really know where the differences are though.
If buying new I would go with Stihl or Husky.

Yes the 028 is bad to the bone, I just wonder if the new ones run as good. I have heard the news saw do not runs as good but I hope thats not the case. I want something new that will compare to the 028 super stihl.

I have a newer version 021{maybe 10 years old} that I bought for my son to use several years ago and does just fine as well. Only thing about it that I don't like is the smaller fuel tank, and that is most likely because of the smaller body.
One thing I know people don't like about the new models is the fuel and oil caps seem to break easily.

Ive got a Husqvarna 455 20" and a 235 18" both great saws the 235 is my favorite if Im going to be doing much cutting the 455 gets heavy. If you get a 235 Id make sure its the one that has 2 nuts holding the bar tight and not 1 or even worse the plastic tab that requires no wrench. Good Luck Jon

No criticism of Stihl or Husky, but also check out Dolmar. I've got one, and it's awesome.

Got no info for ya on the new saws cause the only saw I been using for the past 30 years is my Husqvarna Model 61 Rancher. After all these tornados here, it got a pretty good workout & plenty of compliments from folks who saw it in action. It may lay down tomorrow & if it does I'll buy another Husky!!
