went there today for the first time. I always go to bass pro for things i need or want or just to look around. I have to say I was not impressed with the store in turkey Creek. There prices were pretty high and they just dont have a good selection. maybe they just hadn't restocked or something I dunno but I wont be going back there. I will be doing all my shopping at Bass Pro

Its funny...everytime I go to BPS, they dont have the one thing I specifically go there for. Gander seems to have it, BUT like you say, they are WAY over priced. I only buy something from there if I REALLY need it.

it really depends on the product you are looking for. I noticed a few things the other day that Gander was cheaper on than bass pro. As for staff, I def liked a guy named Jay at Gander. He was very friendly, seemed knowledgable, and was eager to help me and my gf with our newb issues and questions.

x 2

I'm just glad to have the choice of both, as that "competition" helps keep both "on their toes" for our business.

Personally, I've found the Knoxville Gander employees to be more knowledgable and eager to help than the ones at either the Bass Pro in Nashville (the one I go to most) or the Bass Pro near Sevierville. But enjoy shopping them all, as each tends to carry some different items, and sometimes it's just more convenient to go to one vs. the other. Hard to beat convenience.

depending on where you are located, you may be spending more in the cost of gas to get there...haha.

Ive got a few good deals at gander. I like bass pro better, but I dont have a preference when it comes to purchasing. I just go with wherever I am at at the time, and whoever is cheapest on what im looking for. BTW, Gander and Bass will match each others prices. ;\)

One thing I dont like about Gander is they put their logo on EVERYTHING. There have been many things that I have found that I want to buy, but their big freakin logo totally turned me off from the product.

i believe that GM will match any advertised price. I didn't feel like traveling out to BPS to purchase a trial camera, so i brought the ad into GM and they matched the price.

I would'nt step foot in another GM if someone paid me! THE most overpriced retail store I've ever seen. Its almost comical. Everytime I drive by the one in Knoxville, it puzzles me how it is still open. The only thing they are good for is to walk in and if your lucky enough that they actually have the item your lookin for, then look at the price, then walk out. Now you know what the worst price is, and you can go look for the best prices then!!!

I'd just about guarantee you could order your stuff from other stores on line and even by the time you pay shipping, you will still come out cheaper than if you'd just walk in GM and pay their prices.

I guess it just depends on what your looking for. I picked up a nice M&P 40 for 299. Thats almost a 600$ gun. I cant complain on some things I find in their sometimes.

About 3 years ago I bought a TC Triump Muzzleloader from Gander Mountain in Knoxville. It was priced $50 less than the exact same model at Bass Pro. Don't remember if it was on sale or anything, just that I had been thinking about getting one, saw one at Gander for less than either Cabela's or Bass Pro, and bought it Johnny-on-the-spot. Have done similarly with several other items.

When I'm in Knoxville, it's ofen convenient for me to run over to Gander and just enjoy browsing around, while it's usually over an hour out of my way to do the same at the Sevierville Bass Pro. On average, Ganders prices seem higher than Bass Pro, but same can be said for Target vs. Walmart, etc. Nice to have either close by, and the Bass Pro in Nashville is very "close by" every time I drive thru.

Academy Sports is better if you ask me \:\)

BPS in Sevierville is right at 90 miles for me, one way. I like going there but with the ole 18 MPG truck, that gets expensive. It totally offsets any "savings" by shopping there vs the other stores.

Gander @ Turkey Creek is 53 miles from me. They are what I call a "variety" outdoor store. Not just hunting and fishing but a little of everything. I too think they are ungodly priced on some things; particularly firearms. I noticed that all their Remington longguns were pretty much what Remington has on their website as MSRP.

Academy @ Shallowford RD in Chatt is just 40 miles from me. I had never been down there til my wife had her lasik done just right across the street from it. Surgery was 2hrs long so I hopped over there for a few minutes and was pretty impressed. Once again, a large selection of "just about everything" and quite a bit in the fishing stuff too. Everything I saw was priced pretty good although I didn't look at any of their firearms.
