He has been frontlined. He itches all over but that spot is extremely dry. If he had a single flea it would have already found it's way to my ankle by now. \:\)

Thanks. He's a chunk at 55 lbs. so we should be good to go with the benadryl. Thanks for the help.

I do bathe mine in h&s shampoo. on the raw area of the tail take Hydrocortizone cream and treat it morning and evening by just rubbing it in and it will stop the itching and heal it. I use it several times per year on my cairn terrier poodle mix.

Frontline works by absorbing through the oil glands in their skin. If he has drier skin, try another flea and tick prevention such as K9 Advantix. Be careful with benadryl. It will either knock them out, or hype them up just like humans. Ears and rears are prime spots for fleas. Hope this helps...

Our dog had those issues, adding fish oil is a great idea. You may also want to feed him an egg per day.

Benadryl works well for relief, just wrap it in a little piece of cheese.

Dogs have a different PH than humans... shouldn't use human shampoo on a dog.

But anyways... my dog has some serious itching problems. I've done about everything you could think of to stop it. The only thing that would touch it was Temaril-P. You can do the research on it on the internet and see if it's something you would ask your vet about. No doubt about it, it will stop the itching. I wouldn't advise using it for long periods of times.

Now with that said, I have had allergy test done on him. We give him a shot every couple of days. It helps but at times his allergies get pretty bad. His main allergy is dust... go figure. The allergy test was pretty costly but it was worth it. It keeps his scratching down by over 50%. He doesn't have any raw spots and he can sleep most of the night. Hopefully when we get him up to full dose of his allergy med, it will knock it out completely.

Good luck.

I got the idea from a vet on the H&S dry scalp. stik's sister's beagle was in bad shape and it was what she was told to use. I will check on the temaril.
