I hope I never have to use this storm shelter, however I'm getting one. The hole was dug today and tomorrow concrete will be poured and set down in the hole.
It is a 10 person unit, but if needed you could put a few more in.

The blocks they will set the shelter on, concrete will be up even with the blocks. The chains will be over the shelter to keep it from floating out of the ground.

That is a good price, I'm going to have more in this one than that. To me it is like buying Insurance, you have it in case you need it but hope you never have to.

Makes sense. Thanks.

Cool
is that a fiberglass structure? What keeps hydrostatic pressures from slowly collapsing the walls inward?

I looked at ones like that..nice. The only problem was the width of the door unless you leave the fat people outside. They make/sell one around here out of concrete that looks like a modified septic tank that seems to be more user friendly step wise. If we build another place one will be installed like you said just in case.

My cousin lives next door to me and we've been talking about splting one, the cost and everything. There is a great spot right between our houses and would not take any time at all to get there from front and back doors from both houses.

Looks more like a tomb -
I like the idea - but think I'd opt for the old style 'root cellar' build into the side of a hill -
ferg....

Just curious, but at what point do you enter the shelter? When a tornado warning is issued for your county?
Also, will a cell phone work from one?
BTW, if anyone hasn't signed up to have tornado warnings, etc., messaged to your phone, it is a great warning system. I have it set up to send me one when either my county or the county just west of us (where the majority of our storms come from) is issued a warning. Mine is set up through the weather website that the company I work for operates (WeatherTap.com), but there are other sites as well as radio stations, etc., that will do it for free.

What keeps hydrostatic pressures from slowly collapsing the walls inward?
I was wondering the same thing...I've seen block walls in basements that weren't properly back-filled and drained litterally collapse under homes due to this. I can only imagine what will happen over time with fiberglass. Maybe the size and shape of the structure will support the pressure.

Yes my brother has one and he tested his phone in his worked perfect. We're about 3 miles from a verizon tower.
Also, will a cell phone work from one?

I did a lot of research before picking this unit, never seen anything on the net where one has had any issues.
they do have pretty good size ribs on sides and ends to help brace it. Looked into concrete ones saw where there were a lot of issues with them leaking.

We're flat here so no hill to put one into. Looks more like a tomb -

Cool, I'm sure they've got them engineered pretty well. Good deal
