The Space Shuttles are done and will be "tourist" attractions in certain states, well except for Texas. America, the lone superpower on earth, must rely upon Russians to ferry astronauts into space...at $63 million a head.
Let's look at what America's NASA - ya know the National Aeronautics and Space Administration - could do...when it wasn't interested in "Muslim Outreach" programs:
The Saturn V Rocket - the greatest man-made machine ever built.
The Saturn was, and still is, the largest man-made object to ever leave the earth's surface. It's over 30 stories tall and weighs 6.3 million pounds.
It was the loudest creation made by man, well except for those pesky nuclear explosions...and when it blasted off from Florida in November 1967 - earthquakes registering 4.6 on the Richter scale were noticed all over North America.
The first stage of the rocket had five engines - and are the most powerful ever built. Due to the resistance of Earth's gravity, it took nearly 8 million pounds of force to launch it into orbit. Just so ya know, getting a jumbo jet into the air takes a whole 66,500 pounds of thrust.
That's not all!
To keep these giant darlings in out of the rain, NASA built what's called the Vertical Assembly Building down at Kennedy Space Center to hold four Saturn V's at one time. To this day it's still one of the world's largest buildings - covering nearly 8 acres. The doors on this building are the largest doors ever built....456 feet high!
Yankee Stadium or the Rose Bowl could sit on top of the roof - with room to spare.
15 Saturn V rockets were built and 13 actually went into space. The last one to fly was to Skylab in 1973.
Every Saturn V rocket launched successfully - a record all by itself in human flight.
If America could do that then...why can't it do just about anything now???
Don't think for a second some 'enemy' don't want them some of that....say like a certain Communist nation called China.

I wonder this same thing on a daily basis. The only thing that stands out as to why we don't is that good work ethic has all but dissappeared from our workforce today. Not only that, but safety standards and other government intervention has made it so expensive and frusterating to take the neccessary risks involved in testing new theories that it's not worth it anymore.
