Nope, but I have considered it. I'm not very fond of the "on-call" associated with the work although I'm sure it pays very well when you get called out.

I use to be a Lineforeman For TVA before I had an automobile accident. I went through the Groundman and lineman apprenticeship at TVA. Are you in the cell cat program or High line? Back in the day, line work was hard work but, now a days they use bucket trucks for everything they can. Lineman make good money however, it's not enough when you consider all the dangers that accompany the job. Good luck on making it to your last year, I remember it well.

When "on call" it is not advisable to use and flip the company bucket truck while trimming trees at your own residence! One of my cousins can atest to that!

Not yet but hope to be soon, The co-op I work for hasnt set anybody up in 4 years, due to the economy they say?!? But at any rate Im topped out in the groundman slot and hope to be next in the apprenticeship. Love the work, My dad retired after 33 years of line work and I plan on doing the same. Good luck in your final year Trevor.

I'm in the tvppa program, through TVA and the call out, if it's storm damage is an adrenaline rush.

I am not a "Lineman" but I do work with a bunch of them !! I am a Journeyman Maintenance Foreman for the utility company here in Sikeston. We have line crew, substation, water/sewer plants and water/sewer distribution and power plant crews. It is a good position or trade to pursue and can be utilized about anywhere. Pay is pretty darn good just about every where and EXCELLENT in other places, I know during the ice storm of 09 we had crews in from all parts of the country most average a salary of 45/hr + and one crew had a helicopter lineman !! He was bumping 80/hr......He also had some awesome stories to tell aswell
Our guys do climb some but it is mostly bucket work. Good luck on your final year and be safe in the years to come.
