We just stepped off of a 7 day cruise.
The day we departed from Tampa, as we
boarded the ship there was a VERY LARGE American flag suspended from the inside atrium of the ship in front if the glass elevators.
No sooner then we get on the open water, they took it down. Again, I'm not talking about the ship's in-port flag on outside of the ship.
As we ate breakfast the morning out halfway over the Gulf, some goons with maintenance suits come in with a box cutter and start hacking on the rope. All the while, some Romanian douche with his cruise ship 'navy' uniform oversees them. He has the shoulder boards and insignia.
So, anyway. One greasball cuts the rope and other one 'reels' in the flag like he's pulling in a trotline. The guy wads Old Glory up like a soiled beach towel and then finishes her off by wrapping the remaining length of rope around the whole bundle.
I was stunned. The fancy Romanian 'officer' motioned for the maintenance men to take it away. I gave him a hard cold stare for 8 seconds. We both made eye contact.
I went down to guest services and complained to some higher up dude with a Denmark name tag. He said he wasn't sure they'd even had a flag. Guest Services is in that very same atrium. The flag was suspended almost directly above his head. He had no clue as to my complaint and just shrugged me off. Other folks behind me in the line at guest services voiced their disgust right there when they heard me talking loud about the situation.
I got an email into corporate and mentioned it on our survey. I believe Carnival is an American owned company.

I have been on 1 Carnival Cruise. There ain't an American working on that boat anywhere. I had a great time, but Americans were the minority for sure.

Will not do much good. 90% of the people that work on the cruise ships are NOT American citizens. The only place you will see 75% or better American workers is where the ship docks.

Whether it does any good to complain, you are probably right Charlie. I still get satisfaction of telling 8,000+ members on here for what that might be worth.
We were looking towards a different cruise line for future trips. This was the tipping point. This was our third cruise with Carnival and the little peeves have been adding up.
Most all of the housekeeping staff are Indonesian and I have say I was overall pleased them. Hard working and polite.
The kitchen and dining staff are eastern bloc European types. They dumb, arrogant, sassy and rude. Hardly ever smiled. Could not provide any help when asked simple request. I get more feedback from my beagle.
Another peeve was the ship staff's overall lack of general knowledge regarding ship stuff, geograpy of the ports and other things. Their minds basically operated like zombies. Just going through the motions.
I even witnessed two dining staff persons involved in some sort of physical altercation among themselves righ out in the open. Dude grabbed another guy away from his juice cart and twisted his arm behind him and march him off over in the corner for some heated words in their language.
It reminded me of when Brian owed Stewie his money. I thought he was gonna smash an orange juice glass across his face. Ha!
