my small pond in the back yard is covered in algae, a thin green layer of slime all over it. What can I do to get rid of it and help maintain it before it gets out of control like this again?

Aerate it with a fountain will help.

moving the water with a fountain will help.i used to use blue dye on my big duck pond.the dye keeps the sun from penetrating the water and keeping algae from forming

Someone told me to put Fools Gold rocks in the pond. The acid from the rock will dissipate the algae. I have no idea if it works or not, never tried it.

Copper Sulfate AS DIRECTED - it can kill off your fish if you don't follow the directions, which are basically don't treat over a third of your pond at a time. My problem this year is with a flowering plant with yellow blooms - any one know how to get rid of this stuff?

I've got string algae{I think that is what it is}. Started with AlgaeFix late last week. It seems to be helping. Once we get it under control we will start adding some form of barley{extract or bales}
