My mailbox and a neighbor's got wiped out Tuesday night and I'm thinking about having a new one bricked. Anybody on here do that or have someone they could recommend? I live near the Nashville Superspeedway between Smyrna and Mt. Juliet.

Put two boxes up. The one on the right full of concrete on a steel pole. Th one on the left your normal mailbox!
Then just pick the bat with the hands stuck on it up out of the yard in the morning!
It will literally break their wrists!

State or county right of way is 10 feet on each side of the road. It is illegal to build permant fixtures or buildings on right of ways. There was a lawsuit in monroe county over a car hitting a brick mailbox and killing the driver. The drivers family sued the homeowner and their insurance along with the state and won

Yep, I've read about dozens of cases over the years here in Paducah and Memphis where the homeowner lost the suit.

I believe it varies with type of road(# of lanes, width, etc) and locations( county roads, neighborhoods, etc)

Around here they go through "spells" where they decide to do in 10-20 mailboxes at a time. I replaced mine 5 times already. I've seen the ones that were bricked. If they can't knock it down I've see them wrap a chain around it and pull it down with a truck. I guess if on the ground is their goal any means necessary works.

I'd love to catch someone messing with one. I think a sledgehammer to their vehicle would be appropriate. I can't think of another item that you have to buy and install but it's the federal government's property.

Around here, it seems that most people use a piece of rebar stuck in the ground to the side of the box.
Let 'em sue!

Put up a decoy and a trail cam. Nail thier arses to the wall and make sure it makes the paper. That should stop it.

Sorry guys I should have been clear. It was not vandalized on purpose. A guy had a few too many cold ones and hit them. I know who he is and tracked him down that night at his house about a mile away. He came to my house the next evening asking what I wanted him to do to make it right. He actually works for the guy who did my patio last summer and I see him all the time while jogging and he hollers at me and waves so all is good from that perspective. They said they can do a concrete one but I want pictures first to see what they look like. Still leaning toward brick to match the house.

Smart move Chad, and the concrete is not only legal its a good idea, and when bricked looks great to boot! I did mine this way on this last house I built.

from the USPS.com website.
For posts and supports, it’s up to you to keep them neat and adequate in strength and size. Ideally, its assembly should bend or fall away when struck by a vehicle. The Postal Service doesn’t regulate mailbox supports except for purposes of carrier safety and delivery efficiency. It’s also your responsibility to ensure a path is clear to your mailbox so that carriers can safely and efficiently deliver the mail.
