Don't know how it is these days, but that used to be the worst job in the Corps. The recruiters were under ridiculous pressure to make quotas by any means possible so lots of them would say anything to get a kid to sign up. The rule to live by was that nothing is true unless you have it in writing. Hope things are better with the recruiting system these days.
Don't get me wrong, enlisting in the Marines was probably the best decision I ever made. Just keep a healthy skepticism about recruiter promises and if somebody wants a specific training program or specialty, it's best to get it in writing.

Things can still change later. Like a lot of contracts pay attention to the small print. Sure you can pick a job in most cases but then you have to pass the test to hold it. Some MOS's have a 98% washout rate but that don't mean you go home. Just assigned a new MOS as needed by the military.
