Trying to order a part for our Husqvarna riding mower at church. One of the men told me it needed a "Fuel shut off valve" for the carb. The only thing I can find online is a "Fuel Solenoid" for the carb. Reckon that is the same thing???

Any help appreciated.

Are you replacing one or just adding one after the fact? If your replacing an existing one then you just have to match it. Probly a dealer item.

They have several styles of fuel cut offs. Some are manual cut offs. They are like a small ball valve with a handle and others may be a turn type with a twist knob on it. You just cut the fuel anywhere between the tank and carb and install them inline.
Others are automatic shut offs..

The word solenoid makes me thing that it may be an automatic cut off that either operates off of the key switch or maybe even a vacum operated cut off that operates off of the intake pressure. They usually mount to a motor bracket somehow...

Probly not much i reckon....

Replacing one. Problem is, I'm not a mechanic and the man in church who is (and told me the part to order) is out of town and I can't get hold of him. So, I am pretty sure it is the solenoid he is talking about, but I thought someone might know for sure if the solenoid is also called a "fuel shutoff valve".

Like I said,..the term "solenoid" tells me that it most likely a remotely controled automatic fuel shut off valve. I will be easy find, just follow the fuel line from the tank to carb. It will be somewhere in between. IF it is an automatic shut off (solenoid) it should either have a wire or a rubber vacum line on going to it.

There is also a starter solenoid, but if he specificly said fuel solenoid then I would say that he is talking about a fuel cut off valve of some sort....

Your friend knows what he is talking about-----It is what the wire going to your carb is attached to..I usually cut the fuel line between the gas tank and the carb and install a manual cut-off valve. You can get them at most auto parts stores. Not a big job at all.

Yep,
You can go either way with that. We "went around" the fuel solenoid on our Craftsman when it went bad-added a fuel shutoff.
