I guess by being one of the world's worst procrastinators I've managed to squeeze an extra year or two out of my current (and way outdated) unit. It is still running, but there are signs it is on its last legs.

I hope to be in the house for years to come, so long term savings are to be considered as well as intial cost. I currently have a dual fuel unit. Any advise out there on replacing it with the same versus a high effeciancy totally electric unit? Any brands to steer clear of? And, any companies in the Nashville/Williamson Co. area that you would recommend (or definitely not want)?

Thanks!

we are replacing a 7.5 t unit now. ouch!

if you can find a independent guy, they are usually more reasonable on cost. also i think there are a few ac manufactures in m/boro . maybe you can find someone who works there 2 get u a deal.
goodluck with it

my beighbor is and independent ownwer, give him a call. Did excellent job on replacing and -sealing- my duct work because of the flood. Even replace a part of the heating unit- still had water in it- and wasn't part of the ductwork deal.
His name is Phil- owner

I'm telling you right now, call McGee's. The guy will do you right and at a good price. Don't go with high overhead companies. This guy works out of his home and is jam-side-up.

He's in Pleasant View but works all around Nashville.

If you have natural gas the dual unit is great. If not a high efficent all ele unit. I like the Trane brand and have had good luck with them.

I'd go with Trane or Carrier. A similar dual fuel unit would probably work the best for you.

i don't know about your area but in memphis carrier parts distributors have the hightest turnover in personel of any company that i have ever dealt with and it shows
all of the trane people without exception that i have dealt with in the last 30+ years have been top notch
i'm not a big fan of either company
carrier has had a lot of quality issues in the past with poor customer support
trane on the other hand has really good customer support but they are a cutting edge technology company and many times when i needed a part it called for a replacement kit to update it and there have been quite a few times when they weren't readily availiable and my customer would have to endure the heat or cold until the part became availiable
a really good tech can use the old school technology to get the unit running until replacement is availiable on some issues but others its not safe to do it and you just have to wait
