I need some advice about stand placement. When is the best time to set up a stand for the fall season? Should I be out there now doing it now rather than wait to the last few weeks before season starts? I know the deer pattern will change?

If you know there is a place you are going to hunt in the fall then now is better than waiting till right before season opens.

If you don't know what the deer will be doing till a few weeks before you hunt then it sounds like you will have to wait till then to put up your stands.

You need some history to go on. I have wound up many times having to re-locate stands that I placed in the summer. But if you know a good spot I would say go ahead and do the work now.

I do place stands in summer because I never have time to finish hanging them right after the season. The best time to hang them is February - March. You can place the stand and see exactly what you will be seeing the following fall since the leaves are off the trees. Plus, there arent any ticks and its not hot. But obviously, the earlier the better. I wont go in my locations anytime after August.

I am a fan of having them up early but the longer they're out there the more chance of them walking away.

Like to place mine in August. That way I can judge the mast crop and emerging browse and fruits.

My friend took my sugestion and moved a ladder stand last year during gun season around noon one day , that evening killed a nice eight point at dusk and the next morning his brother killed a better eight out of that stand . Never bothered deer movement at all but got to consider different strokes for different properties ! But it is nothing for us to change channels during the season !
