I have 2 cats that I keep in the basement during the Winter months, then let them out during the Spring. Not often, but on occasions I leave them in the basement too long or let them out and back in sometimes when storms brew up. Well now we have a Flea issue. I have Bombed the basement at least 3 times. I have even done a Permethrine mix and sprayed the basement with it. I also use a pan of water with a cardboard box behind it with a green lighted nite lite draped over the top of the box to attract the fleas. When the fleas jump for the light, they bounce off of the box and land in the water where they drown. I have 2 of these setups in the basement right now. They are catching their share, but not enough, or quick enough for the wife,,,,if you know what I mean. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

1.)Put some Dawn dishwashing soap in the water. 2.)Sevendust if it's not carpet or somewhere you spend a lot of time. Not that it will hurt you but it does have a weird smell. It will kill them pretty quick. You can also put it directly on the cats to kill the fleas... or wash the cats in Dawn... that will kill them also but not real good for the PH of the cat. But it's a cat, who cares? LOL

Capstar tablet sold at vets-Kills fleas within 30 minutes and last for 48 hours
Comfortis Tablet sold at vets-Kills fleas within 30 minutes and lasts for 1 month

Seen both of them work, they are amazing the fleas start falling off \:D

Frontline does ok on Fleas primarly does the best on ticks

but for fleas I would use capstar($5) or comfortis($15)

I am a Veterinary Assistant I know lol

Frontline used to do the trick, but this year they are bad and it doesn't seem to make the grade.

Seven dust (5%) is effective on the cats, or used to be if you can still find the powder.

You didn't mention treating the cats. You have to start there if they are inside/outside and treat the outside area (sleeping, yard, etc.)

Start with the cats first though.

The box/light thing seems complicated. We just put a saucer of water under a night light, period. Couple drops of dish soap in the water to break surface tension so the little buggers drown nicely.

Go for the capsule solution. If you have fleas in the house, they are in the yard. Make the cats poisonous.

Sevin dust works better than anything else I've tried. Had fleas all over the yard when I lived in Texas and sprinkled Sevin dust all over the yard and rubbed a little into my dogs fur. Never saw a flea again when I lived there.
Tried a few flea sprays and they did nothing that I could tell.

If you have'em in the house they are a pain. They lay their eggs up under the baseboards and you will continue to have a problem for a while. Couple summers ago they were real bad in our area and we had them in our house. Took about three weeks to get them out of the house.

Bring large pot of water to rolling boil. Add 1/2 cup salt and 1/2 cup bleach and return to boil. Once water is rolling, dip each cat for 3 minutes.

I bet you need a leather body armor to try that.
