I bought the mower I have less than a year ago, it was the cheapest push mower that Lowes had, and I am far from satisfied. The motor cuts in and out, it does a lousy job cutting the grass, and it sometimes the throttle runs low.(there is no throttle adjustment) The cheap mower is not making me happy, about the only thing that would make me happy with it is to see what a few rounds of 00 buck do to it at about 15 feet. Im having the same experience with the second from cheapest from lowes. Mower has the non adjustable cheap-o "california" carb on it. The kind that is factory set for "environmental" reasons. I guess a motor that sputters and cant be adjusted to run correctly on the "environmentally friendly" ethanol garbage gas is what the greenieweenies THINK is best for us nuckle draggers who mow our own lawns. I really really want to shoot that mower some days. The only thing on the carb you can rebuild is the all in one fuel pump diaphram and gasket combo. Going to give it a whirl. If that doesn't fix it, Im going to do some dumpster diving and try to find an old school carb to replace that POC with.
I have that same mower from Lowes, and you couldnt be more correct. The carb is a piece of crap. I made the mistake of letting it run dry of fuel once last year and it took a hour to get it running again. If I hadnt lived in the city, I probly would have put a bullet in it.

My push mower has a Briggs on it. It has been unbelievably good for 12 years. That said, anything with Honda on it will run forever.

bought a troybuilt last year,im thinking it has a briggs motor on it,garenteed to start 1st pull for 2 years,so far it hasnt missed a lick.never had 1 that started this good.big wheels on back & self propeled, the discharge is picky on wet grass,it came with a mulching cover My story exactly, except mine has small wheels. Right out of the box, filled with gas and it started with one pull. I wasn't crazy about no throttle on it but after a while you get used to it. Now I kinda like it since it is very quiet. Hasn't failed to cut anything I push it through either. I was impressed. Ditto what they said! Love the Troy Built. We just had a Honda engine go down on our bush hog and replaced it with a Briggs Industrial Commercial. Hopefully it will be a good engine Never had a problem with Briggs engines.

Seven years ago I shopped for and bought the very cheapest push mower that I could find-$129 @ Southern States. It is a Rally made by Electrolux. Plain 3.5 Briggs with no throttle control. I have abused it ever since and it starts first pull everytime. Now my neighbor has it{to use} and it works the same for him.
