I have a POS cheap push mower with a low end Briggs motor, and I am wanting to upgrade to a nicer mower. I am torn between a Troy Built with a Honda motor, and Lawn Machine with a Kohler motor. Money is the same, if it were your money, which would you buy?

Brow tines, we must have had the same type mower. I still have that type mower. It has the big wheels on the back. I think it has a tecumshi engine. I've had it for nearly 15 yrs, and have never changed the oil. Put gas in it, prime it about 8 times, and it starts EVERY time on the first crank. My son has been using it for the past 2 years, and he keeps the engine part of the mower pushed up under his Dodge truck to keep it out of the rain.

Kohler makes good engines. I've had 2 of em. Both 21 or 22 horse. Honda makes a good motor also. Although I have not owned one. Briggs is a piece of crap.

Good and bad in all of them. Honda makes good engines but they also make cheap ones to. Which ones are good or bad I don't know.
That said if I was getting new mower it would likely have either the Honda or Kohler engines but I wouldn't turn down a good deal on one with a Briggs, haven't had any trouble out of mine that wasn't my fault or general up keep.

There are a few different grades of Briggs motors. Some are nice motors, but I am about positive that I got the lowest grade, but it has made me not trust a Briggs motor.

Honda, then Kohler, then Briggs if feasible .
With that said, I have run briggs engines into the ground and they were still purring, lol.
No matter what though, I keep up with maintenance myself, keep them cleaned somewhat and keep them out of the weather.

It's not my money but... if it was, I would stay with the cheap ones. There's not enough difference in the cut to justify the difference in price to me. Keep the blade sharp and keep pushing.
Other than that, Honda is the way to go if you must have a nicer mower.
