Other than that, Honda is the way to go if you must have a nicer mower.

I bought the mower I have less than a year ago, it was the cheapest push mower that Lowes had, and I am far from satisfied. The motor cuts in and out, it does a lousy job cutting the grass, and it sometimes the throttle runs low.(there is no throttle adjustment) The cheap mower is not making me happy, about the only thing that would make me happy with it is to see what a few rounds of 00 buck do to it at about 15 feet.

I bought our Lowe's cheapest push mower 2 years ago, it was a Bolens with a Briggs engine.

I changed the spark plug last year, keep oil changed every year, filter clean and lightly oiled and blades sharpened.

It has sputtered at times, but done what I paid for it to do.

I don't cut alot with it, just where my Troy-Bilt rider won't go.

Best mower by far is Honda, but go ahead and get a self propelled. Worth every dime.

Nothing wrong with a briggs, I have a rider and a push with briggs motors on them and they start first time every year for 8 years now.

Im having the same experience with the second from cheapest from lowes. Mower has the non adjustable cheap-o "california" carb on it. The kind that is factory set for "environmental" reasons. I guess a motor that sputters and cant be adjusted to run correctly on the "environmentally friendly" ethanol garbage gas is what the greenieweenies THINK is best for us nuckle draggers who mow our own lawns.

I really really want to shoot that mower some days. The only thing on the carb you can rebuild is the all in one fuel pump diaphram and gasket combo. Going to give it a whirl. If that doesn't fix it, Im going to do some dumpster diving and try to find an old school carb to replace that POC with.

Of the two mentioned I would have to go with the Honda for sure.
Right now I am using a Toro with a Briggs on it. Got a good deal on it and the Briggs I have to say ha been running great, starts first pull for the last five years.

The thing I like most about the Toro is the personal pace self propelled system. My next mower will be a Toro Commercial with the Kawasaki engine.

Just replaced my old honda mower with a new one. Got the one they have on sale for $399. I mow 6 yards a week with it and bag some and mulch the rest. I've had several other brands but will stick with the honda. My old one finally got to the point where I can't keep the drive belt on, but the motor still runs like new and starts everytime on the 1st pull. Bought it used from a friend 2 years ago and it's mowed more grass in those 2 years than most mowers ever see in a life time. Best mower I've ever ran when bagging and sometimes the grass gets pretty tall in a couple yards I mow and would plug my other mower.

That's what I have and it's the best there is, worth ever cent.

The Honda MOWER, not just MOTOR, I have I got it at Home Depot. It has TWO cutting blades, one under the other, and does a double cut leaving your yard looking great like a pro cut it.

My story exactly, except mine has small wheels.
Right out of the box, filled with gas and it started with one pull.
I wasn't crazy about no throttle on it but after a while you get used to it. Now I kinda like it since it is very quiet.
Hasn't failed to cut anything I push it through either.

I was impressed.
