is there a good web page for snake identification? personally i feel threatened by a garter snake but want to know what if what I have been seeing is poisonous, with the kids running around out here it would be nice to show them what to look for.

If it has cat like eyes, it poisonous. If the pupils are round, its not poisonous.

Get real close and look into his eyes and see what shape the pupils are...let us know how that works out for you.

Another way to tell if a snake is poisonous is by the shape of the head. Poisonous snakes have a head shaped like an arrow. non-poisonous are more rounded. Remember, out of all the different species of snakes found in TN, only 4 are poisonous, pigmy and diamondback rattlers, cottonmouths and copperheads.

hmmmmmmm, didn't know we had diamondback rattlers in TN. I thought they were all Timber Rattlers. I know there are some pygmy rattlers in western Tn.
