So I am leaning toward getting a small 110V unit to handle my simple welding needs. One consideration is I don't have any spare 220V outlets so aside from unplugging the drier I'd have to have a new one installed. My understanding is that a 110 can go into a standard outlet.
My concern is that the large power drain will trip the breaker. Is this more likely with the 110V? Any way to prevent it? Thanks.

Most any 110v welder should be designed to work alright on a 20 amp breaker through out its amperage range. If you don't exceed the duty cycle of the welder you should be fine.

Just remember any other items on the same circuit will reduce the available amperage.
You also may or may not have 20 amp circuits, could be only 15.
Best bet would be a dedicated circuit/outlet for welder only or be sure nothing else is on and running at the time welder is being used.
