Seems pretty ridiculous. Cite him for trespassing and get on with life.

He was stupid to ever make any comments. And I strongly disagree with tagging a civil restitution to a no contest plea without disclosing it on the record in court.

One thing about it, agree or disagree, if everyone knew the chances of having to shell out that amount of cash, the attention to the rules and regulations would increase.

I agree. That seems suspect. How do they calculate the restitution? 7,000 non resident buck tags?

I wouldn't have any problem with them throwing his but in jail for a couple months on the tresspassing if they can show he was hunting in there.

Agreed. However, such a steep fine can have unintended side effects, including intimidating law-abiding hunters into quitting. If this sticks, it has set a new precedent in OH. Now an honest mistake in a game or trespassing violation - even if it was half the price of this one - just won't be worth the risk for some hunters.

This is the level of fine muggers, drug dealers, and commercial poachers should face. Way too steep for trespassing.
