Here's a question for all of you that have a carry permit.

How many of you have lawyer insurance or "legal insurance"??

I do and I bought it as soon as I got my first permit. I knew up front that if I ever had to use it ever if I was 100% in the right I would have to spend several thousands of dollars in legal fees before it was all over.

What Legal expenses insurance is it covers the cost of your lawyer, the courts, solicitors’ fees, barristers, expert witnesses, court fees and any legal costs awarded to the other side. Most home owners and auto insurance covers PART of that in THEIR CASES like you was in a auto accident or someone got hurt in your house, etc, you get sued for those things. BUT they do NOT cover you using your firearm in defense. Unless you are covered you AND your family will be paying out of pocket the full amount and it can easy run into hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I was talking with a couple friends about it the other day and they say they never heard of this nor did they plan to get it.

To me that's stupid. We get the carry permit for one thing, or so we say, and we all say we hope never have to use it but it's there if needed. So we have the permit IN CASE WE NEED IT but we are not covered in legal insurance IN CASE WE NEED IT.

The police depts have this insurance and in a shooting they are covered, security companies have the same insurance for the same reasons.

It is to procect yourself against the other guys lawyer. ;\)

Stovepipe,

You will have to get it locally, and it's different for different people. I understandt depends on a lot of things. Think about auto insurance, a man in his 50's will pay cheaper insurance than a 16 year old kid. I would guess it all depends on one's job, how offten one carries, the areas he's in most of the time, etc, etc but that's just a guess. I DO KNOW that different people are higher risks than others.

There is a place that has it as part of their membership benefits but I have no idea how good it is. One of my friends told me about this site and that's what brought up the subject as we all were talking.

Ever though I have private insurance I still might sign up to become a member.

I find it to be a useless venture. If you think about how much your monthly premiums cost, factor in the amount of time between shootings, could you not open your own interest-bearing account to use as your Legal Fund? I've had my permit now for 4.5 years. All I have to show for it is a worn holster and bigger pants.

Say for instance, your premium is a simple $10/month. In the 52 months that I've been carrying, that's $520 with no interst. That in itself should cover the phone call to the lawyer and the follow-up to the investigation. Once you're vindicated and ruled justified in shooting, you're immediately immune from civil liability. I can't imagine the legal premiums being that inexpensive.
