wow, thanks guys for all the info. It will be very helpful and is much appreciated!!!

we plan to drive around , staying a day or two in each area.

we want to take our time and see everything or most everything.

How much time would you recommend...Is 7 days enough?

any and all details appreciated.

thanks again.

I don't know if a month would be enough! \:\)

BH, I can see the world in 7 days! lol
I was in the area for one night in Jackson Hole and one night in Cody, wy, but the Cody stop(50 miles from the park) was coming home and was the closest obvious place to overnight going east. Obviously, you could see more with more time and we would take an additional night and day were we ever to go back. However, you could certainly see a bunch with just that time. Ours was an afterthought(woke up in Rawlins, "want to go to Yellowstone?, yeah, why not" type of thing). Digest what these people told you, get you maps of both parks before you go, decide what you want to see, and you'll have a ball(we did, even with our trip that most would consider too short).

BH, we stayed in a very expensive motel, of which there are two side by side north of Jackson Hole overlooking the National Elk Refuge, which has no elk until about thanksgiving. Motel was not state of the art, but decent enough.

I'd say 7 days is more than enough time. If you have the time, I would HIGHLY recommend you go up to Northern MT and see Glacier National Park. Yellowstone is cool, but Glacier is AAAAAAmazing.

If you end up coming out of West Yellowstone and drive over to Bozeman...stop in 4 Corners (it's a town) and eat at Stacy's Steakhouse. It's an old brothel.

And one more...if you have the time, also check out Virginia City, MT. It's an old mining town in the mountains...TONS of history, plenty to see there. A day there is worth it.

BH, after reading some of the responses and inquiry about how long your trip should be, I note that several mention eateries, old mines, brothels, etc. I have done all of that hundreds of miles closer to my home than NW Wyoming! lol I went to Tetons/Yellowstone for the natural scenery, animals, etc. I have seen mucho antelope, mule deer, and elk at the NRA Whittington center in Raton,NM, and Vermejo Park ranch, same area. Bison in Custer State Park, Custer, SD. Also, St.James hotel in Cimmaron,NM. Also, the old mining district in Creede,Colorado. For us flat landers, the mountain west is full of spectacular stops, and you can save yourself hundreds of miles driving if that's your goal. That's probably why I can do the Teton/Yellowstone deal much shorter than many. Different strokes for different folks. lol
