I see nothing wrong, why do some want to make an issue? I guess you are talking about the rebel battle flag and I suppose most of those who make an issue of the flag are African-American.
To many the rebel battle flag is a revere symbol of the valor and sacrifice of their ancestors. To many African-Americans, the same flag is a symbol of segregation and white supremacy.
In reality the battle flag is a testimony to a lost cause. A cause that many of us still cling to.

If want to display your Southern heritage without offending others, use the 1st National Confederate Flag or the Bonnie Blue. Many people are unaware of these flags, but many Southerners know what they are.

A very intelligent response with which I agree. Thanks Hawk.
I had a rebel flag on my bedroom wall, as a child. I outgrew that pretty quickly. That was in the early 60s when even our courthouse had a whites only bathroom and water fountain and all blacks had to be off the streets by a certain hour at night.
The flag represents a horrible time in this country's history when we were torn apart.
In my opinion, only ONE flag should be legal to fly in this country. That is a show of unity and strength. No matter where you go or where you live in this country, you are in AMERICA. Her flag is the only one you should be wanting to raise....imo.

If only one flag is legal then the first amendment is for nothing. Think about that BH.

then no one needs to complain about any flag being flown?
Remember the pictures of the school kids flying the mexican flag a couple of years back.
a portion of this country USED to be Mexico. Just like it used to be the confederate states. Why do you think people got angry that these kids were flying the mexican flag?
do you have a problem with every person of some other heritage flying their own flag? Muslims, Germans, Japanese...and so forth?
It's sad that so many southern people care more about the past than they do about unity and the future of this country.
One flag, one nation, period.

If you are talking about the school thugs, I mean kids, in California that were not just flying the Mexican flag, they lowered the American and state flags, removed the state flag, hung the Mexican flag first, (highest), then hung the American flag upside down under the Mexican flag, then yeah, I had a problem with that. If they want to just fly the Mexican flag alone, go for it, but do not fly it over the US flag and do not fly the US flag upside down.

One natione made up of 50 states. That's why there are state flags. A rebel flag units southeners. However I can see why some hate it so much. To be honest if I grew up with a bunch of Rednecks in white sheets chasing down people I knew or even me waving a symbol (flag, shield, or anything else)I would not hold that symbol in to high regard.

I look at the flag as a matter of "regional pride." The South is not a direction, it is a place. I understand and acknowledge that some are offended by it and often times it is severely mis represented. For example, you'll often see skin head rallies where they fly the Confederate flag next a Swastika. That's just pairing together potentially offensive (to some) symbols and adding to the controversy. My grandpa may have been a bit of a racist, at least judged by the standards of today, but he sure did kill some F-n Nazis, in fact, he once told me that he wished that he had killed a few more. If he were still alive and saw some neo Nazi type waiving a Confederate flag around next to Nazi symbolism, it might not be a pleasant outcome.
So, the perception of the flag is definitely tied to the actions of some who pervert its meaning in very visible ways. On the other hand, its on the MS flag and many license plates down there.
