My son is homeschooled through a local private academy. We went today to set up his classes for the summer. He needed only 1.5 hours to finish his highschool requirements. We walked in and the principle meets us at the door. He tells boy I have some bad news and some good news which do you want first. My heart sunk and I started to get this sick feeling..my son says lets get the bad news overwith. The principle tells him he can not go to summer school. Then the good news.. he said we found an error in your transcript from your old highschool. We were able to give you credit for another english class so technically you are done with highschool and ready to graduate. We just stood there shell shocked. He just finished his Jr. year and is now done. We get the official documents on Friday. He is on cloud nine and I am really happy for him. It has been a tough yr and a half for him. This is fantastic news and a needed turn of events in his life. I am proud of him and his hard work this year.

Awesome! Congrats to him. I was also homeschooled, and took a couple classes at a christian tutorial, but took my time and finished in the usual 4 years. But being homeschooled you definitely have the potential to finish early which is pretty cool. Learn at your own pace... not at the pace of a regular school system. One size doesn't fit all...

Just as a precaution though, if he plans to enroll in college, you might want them to make sure that his transcript his bullet proof to be accepted!

That Nashville State high school program ("Middle College," it's actually a separate Metro high school with its own diploma, principal, etc.) is a great deal - my son went there for his last semester of high school and graduated with 9 hours of college credit.

Congrats to him!
The school and curriculum is accreditated by the same system that does all the high schools. He will get the same deploma that the public school system will get not just a GED. Unfortunately he has no desire to go to college at this time. Wants to be an entertainer and performer in a circus. He is currently working at the cumberland county playhouse and performing in the play Oklahoma. We have tried very hard to get him to go to a performing arts school but he just has no interest. To each his own but we will be there to support him either way. This is a milestone for him based on the last year and what he has gone through.
